apart from being known for founding the infamous vinyl imprint subaltern records and for his residency on sub.fm, gabriele romeo aka. mentha has made quite a name for himself with his jazz-influenced bass music productions. this lp is a selection of tracks from his vault, showcasing his musical abilities and tasteful compositions in this self-release.

the latest release from the rome-based onda records truly is a delight for the senses. helmed by gianluca marcelli aka dj glc, the label kicked off in 2017 courtesy of the exceptional sounds of g.i.m productions’ ‘rising waves’ ep. although following the latter might have been something of a daunting task, onda’s sophomore release is equally enticing, with two originals (one from dj glc and the other from the aforementioned g.i.m productions) backed with stunning remix interpretations by two of the states’ most respected contemporary producers, atlanta’s byron the aquarius and detroit veteran javontte.

versalife (aka delsins conforce) returns to trust with nova prospekt. four tracks of broken techno manipulations and deep and sparse far-fiction electro continue to expand versalife s intricate sound universe. not one to miss.

italys nuel, aka manuel fogliata, pairs swift kicks and balmy tumbles on his toolkit: selection for northern electronics. each track in the barrel is a succinct instrument to fold and pinch the dancefloor at every available angle. whether you are cruising for a heart rate or falling off the grid, nuel s sun-kissed snapshots are deft cargo.

danny minchella aka rogue d to the family! his debut release comes on the ten inch series of housewax! -resampled- is a real house anthem and on top we have on the b side a fantastic minimono remix! highly recommanded!

apollo welcomes ambient legend bvdub aka san franciscan brock van wey for a new album drowning in daylight .
van wey debuts on apollo with his stunning new album drowning in daylight, exploring cavernous soundscapes on a grand canvas that throb with a delicate intimacy. a stalwart dj and promoter of the halcyon 90s san francisco rave scene, van wey fled to china in the early 2000s to escape the curdling of his musical dreams as the scene became more commercial. since his return he s been incredibly prolific in his creation, etching out peerless ambient works that have captivated listeners with their delicate melody and fascinating textures through releases for the likes of echospace, kompakt and styrax - 2018 s a different definition of love marks his 30th bvdub album to date. classically trained in piano and violin as a child, van wey s symphonic approach to ambience is truly remarkable, epic in it s scale with each of it s 4 tracks clocking in around the 20 minute mark, drowning in daylight envelops the listener in swathes of nostalgic pads and nested layers of distortion, strings and haunted voices. drowning in daylight could well be van wey s crowning achievement to date and a testament to the power of instrumental abstract music to emotionally engulf the listener.

having previously released some rare solo material from ende shneafliet member hanjo erkamp aka dr. c. stein, artificial dance is now serving up something special from the cult dutch minimal wave band’s lesser-known side project, king ende shneafliet. adding king to their name in honour of original dub maestro king tubby, king ende shneafliet produced far more experimental and out-there material than their better-known big brother. they released their first cassette, dimension mix chapter i in 1981 via cult label trumpett, with batches of follow-up material trickling out on various obscure tapes and later cd-rs up to the year 2000. artificial dances first dip into the dimension mix archives a second vinyl volume will follow later in the year features selections from chapter ii (1999), which was originally recorded between 1981 and ’88. the magical, mind-altering music is raw, lo-fi, spaced-out and forward-thinking, combining effects-laden, sample-heavy sound collages and reverberating ambient soundscapes with pulsating proto-electro jams, moody minimal wave instrumentals and kosmiche-influenced throw-downs. it effectively joins the dots between early-80s, diy electronic exploration and dub soundsystem culture.

the latest release on francis harris scissor & thread is another exercise in subtlety and restraint, brought to us by the emerging talents of nadia khan. with little known about the artist, this release lets the sublime music do the talking. title track ‘in gleam is a beautifully evocative drift into ambient textures - rising pads and occasion bass tones combine to set an exquisite scene. ‘local visit is a collaboration with label boss francis harris, and features some of the trademark submerged rhythm and textures the label has become known for, unfolding its deep structures over the course of the track. ‘restless sees label regular alex albrecht aka melquíades (whose previous ep on s&t was received warmly) provide the last bells remix - again muted tones and rhythmic complexity glide under ethereal piano fragments and slowly evolving pad washes. ‘sorting through finds its groove early, a deadened kick unfolds into an urgent percussion creating a thick atmosphere of melancholia. ‘sunburnt rounds out the physical release - ending how it started - with dreamy, smudged tones, and warm pads.

vox populi field works vol.ii is the second part of a broader project entitled ‘field works’, in which the label travels to different locations in the world in order to collect sounds, eventually creating an archive of some of the finest and humblest musical traditions. inspired by academic methods proper to ethnomusicology and ethnography, this project’s aim is to showcase the diversity of our human cultural heritage, which is threatened by accelerated globalization and homogenization of the worldwide musical spectrum.
this record is the result of a twenty-day trip to japan. led by anthropologist and label founder fred scharf and his vox populi records crew, this is the second instalment on the ‘field works’ series. this 12’’ vinyl release is a collection of field recordings, jam sessions, studio recordings, street soundscapes, religious rituals, fighting championships and wedding ceremonies, all of which were remixed and reinterpreted by japan blues, tim karbon, hiroaki oba & shizka (aka inoue shirabe), delivering tracks whose core represents a wide array of traditional japanese sounds.

into the light is launching a parallel and limited series with contemporary material from both greek and international artists. first stop is the album postclub prism by the german producer cass. offering ten gorgeous ambient pieces about light and romance. since 2012, niklas rehme-schlüter aka cass. has released albums of varying styles, from the rather organic and loop based ambient pieces on loops & farewell sketches and the red atlantic ep on throne of blood in 2017, influenced by 80s pop sonics, to the more balearic and percussive recordings on the sound of glades together with wolf müller in 2016. on his new record postclub prism cass. explores his affinity to calm and atmospheric ambient music at the threshold to the reverberant sound of club music.

the fourth release on anna walls label marks sunrom s debut. i am not inspired with the daylight he says. i prefer the night to the day. everything is peaceful and people are asleep. it gives me a feeling to be alone, especially when its really late. it is perhaps the peaceful surroundings of saint-german-en-laye in france, where romain nouhi aka sunrom resides that has encouraged his creative wandering. the city is a quiet place not far from paris, with a beautiful chateau and forest surroundings. the ep kicks off with spirale delightfully uplifting and playful, weaving colourful melodies intricately together. pray takes a more pensive and wistful turn. on the flip copenhagens paxton fettel has remixed superfly full of feel-good piano riffs. the final cut is dj normal 4s version of u doing, a dreamy breaks number that wouldnt sound out of place in the golden era of uk rave. i have a passion for stars and the cosmos, discovering new sounds is like discovering new stars- sunrom.

finnish dj and producer otto yliperttula, aka yotto, is a dance music star in the making. championed by some of the genre’s most respected trailblazers and building an army of adoring fans, yotto is primed to join the big leagues with the release of his highly anticipated debut album ‘hyperfall’. yotto’s unique sound blends dark, brooding atmospheres with light, uplifting melodies – deftly hitting the sweet spot between melancholy and euphoria. otto draws inspiration from his childhood favourites the chemical brothers and röyksopp, along with more contemporary influences ranging from eric prydz and m83 to jon hopkins and xxx. having debuted on anjunadeep in early 2015 he quickly caught the ear of bbc radio 1’s pete tong and annie mac, picking up no fewer than 5 ‘essential new tunes’ and 3 ‘hottest records in the world’, along with dj support from the likes of solomun, jamie jones, patrice baumel, adriatique and joris voorn, who signed yotto to his renowned green label. the 13-track debut lp hyperfall is the culmination of three years in the ascendency, and sees yotto continue to carve his own exciting path.

sam reed aka tokyo prose is a new zealand based drum & bass producer with releases on soul:r, samurai music, hospital records. he now celebrates the release of his sophomore album “wild grace” with his debut on lenzman’s emergent the north quarter label.

phace, momentan wohl deutschlands bekanntester drum & bass-produzent, hat seit 2003 einen eigenen sound in der internationalen drum & bass-szene etabliert. neben future music awards und “album des monats”-auszeichnungen im britischen mixmag magazin, kamen unzählige signings von internationalen labels wie virus, renegade hardware, vison, subtitles und lifted, so dass phace international und über die genregrenzen hinweg ein echter star geworden ist. seine musik erscheint in sets von größen wie goldie, andy-c, pendulum, noisia, spor oder d bridge. neben all den weltweiten touren schaffte es phace in zusammenarbeit mit misanthrop ende 2008 sein eigenes label neosignal ins leben zu rufen.

brendon moeller offers up his set in motion ep on echocord sub-label echo echo this september, comprising three originals from the dub techno veteran. south africa, new york based producer and dj brendon moeller aka beat pharmacy/echologist has long been respected as one of the pioneering figures in ethereal, dubbed-out techno with regular appearances at global hot spots like fabric, berghain and cielo as well as releases on labels like third ear, kimochi, neovinyl and echocord. here though we see moeller joining the roster of the latter’s sublabel echo echo, marking its fourth release. title-track set in motion leads with brendons signature murky synth textures at its core whilst lumpy low-end tones, shuffled hats and spiraling dub echoes fluidly undulate amongst one another throughout. eastern beach follows, and as the name would suggest, nods towards brighter sounds with airy pads, soft bell chime synths and pulsating subs driving the composition alongside swinging, heavily reverberated percussion. economy then closes the package, stripping things back to gritty dub stabs, dusty 4/4 drums and billowing noise sweeps.

rhythm is life and life is rhythm. not only is it our mantra here at neighbour recordings, it s also inspired the title of our debut release from brand-new production partnership and label owners base pilot aka quantec and birke tm. featuring four original tracks, the life is rhythm ep is a full thirty minutes of dope, low-slung house that perfectly unites the duo s many years of shared passion for deep electronic music. identify is the ideal introduction, swirling synths and deceptively hypnotic, it s a proper crafty cut, whilst ghosts leans towards a more emotive and subtle groove. title track life is rhythm is a warm and inviting ten-minute epic of chunky beats, quirky distortion and vocoded vocal snatches, whereas closing number on the early is seriously heads-down and deep. repeat after us, rhythm is life and life is rhythm.

after installing its first release with an original by dj lily and remix by jor-el (aka joel alter), bror records sub label “lilies” presents switched remix duties on lilies2. on the a-side jor-el offers a tough original techno track with an intense arrangement and dense percussions. dj lily delivers an alternative take on the original with an energetic and fast paced remix. limited to 150 hand numbered copies.

warehouse music is the imprint brought to you by london based dj and producer ryan aitchison, aka mella dee. dj mag’s ‘best breakthrough label’s’ latest offering is a collaboration between mella dee and an anonymous artist and friend of the label owner. stutter minimal mix is stripped back and hard-hitting, one for 4am shoulder shrugging, whilst collision is a tough and heavy big room cut. stutter closes the ep as a more resilient, straight mix of the a1.

"texas-based electronic music producer phillip washington aka cygnus was on bit of a hiatus since his phenomenal -cosmos- long play on fundamental records, released near the end of 2016. with this ep, titled -ne0 ge0-, he s breaking the silence and we re extremely happy to see it happening through barba imprint. the record consists of 4 cuts; -zone shifting-, -vertexing-, -ne0-ge0- and -astronoot- which all share common qualities of his previous work - deep, spacey, richly textured and really well crafted. -zone shifting- is what electro in 2018 should sound like. deep, emotional and futuristic but well grounded in the human condition through the vocal line which seems to haunt from the distance. -vertexing- is a slightly more paced, moodier affair with slow enveloping vangelis-esque synth lines bleeding all over traditional electro sounding beat. however, in this case that s exactly what s needed. title track, -ne0-ge0- is the first one on the flip side and the busiest one. creasing of multiple synth lines and pads is done in such an expertly elegant manner that you just can t resist but play it loud on a big soundsystem and see what it does to the dancefloor. and finally, record closes with -astronoot-, and as b2 tracks usually are - it s the deepest of them all, reserved for those heady moments when you need something to bring the magic to the next level."

jeremiah jae (aka black daffi) is an experimental hip-hop artist born and raised on the south side of chicago. he is a visual artist, producer, emcee and founding member of black jungle squad, a music collective consisting of close friends and family. early works by jae dating back to 2007, display his unique style and approach to crafting his own version of “hip-hop”. the genre is one of many foundations the artist uses to communicate his range of styles as shown on previous self-released albums, compilations and collaborations (holy smoke, oliver the 2nd, l’orange, cohenbeats, pbdy), as well as praiseworthy offerings on brainfeeder and warp records. with his newest solo album daffi, jae expands on his production and speaks in the persona of his alter ego to express a darker side.

vinyl only. paris-based meemo joins the inner balance fold with three breezy originals and a remix from the black tone, just in time for longer, warmer days. passage and soma both take a pillow-like backdrop of dubby bass and slowly evolving pads and cut it through with skippy hats and fat claps mellow yet driving to get things heated. keep movin kicks harder, jazzed up a little by its vibrant percussion, while toni be aka the black tone takes soma for a late-hours spin, conjuring one of those sustained moments of dancefloor bliss that we ve come to expect from this label.

ellum black, the new sub-label of maceo plexs notorious imprint, focuses on the dark and intellectual side of techno. this second record instalment features spanish producer architectural. following an ep on the main branch of the label in 2017, juan rico aka architectural delivers 3 forward thinking cuts for this record. architectural is known for his detailed and magnetic productions and on ‘a girl with no friends ep’ he goes deeper into the hypnotic edge of his soundscape. the first track we hear ‘romanticism movement’ creates a statement for the vocabulary of sounds rico used for this record such as low frequencies and deep grooves. the title track follows on the b-side with develops on these textures. closing the trio ’never yours, boy’ finishes the ep with another variation of architectural’s romantic techno repertoire.

modular synthesis wizard eddie symons, aka nullptr null pointer, lands on cpu with some of the finest laid back analogue electro you will hear post other people place. fans of cygnus and dmx krew take note. after his debut lp optical on detroit underground, symons has firmly established himself as a class act to follow. expect spacey wavetable pads, step sequencer conversations and killer modular bass.

you may remember the closing of space, ibiza with carl cox when he played a bootleg of total confusion. barry obzee hobbs (rising high a&r) spent a lot of time trying to locate the remixer and finally did a few months ago. we have now signed the remix which will be released on vinyl in may and on digital in july. the story goes like this: carl cox has been playing the version at most of his shows including tomorrow land, kappa future fest and timewarp ( see video clip below) but this is where the story becomes more interesting. the remixer, rod malmok from rotterdam aka benny rodriguez, who is a very established dj producer playing for loco dice in ibiza etc and releasing on ben klock s imprint klockwork, chris liebings imprint clr, adam beyers imprint drumcode and many more was inspired to remix the track through a conversation with dubfire, rod gave him a rough copy the following day. he played it to carl cox at space, ibiza and cox begged him for a copy - see video below if you ve been around the scene for a while you will know that rising high records was one of the first labels to shape techno, hardcore and breakbeat in the uk and was huge!

spoon is very glad to welcome gojnea aka g76 on the next release of the imprint. on a side, the romanian artist delivers with -special order nuthin- a killer trippy minimal tracks with intriguing vocals. -too intense- on the b sides shows a more soothed side of the producer

albrecht la brooy s analogue attic imprint welcomes citizen maze onto its roster with the four-track serenity in the woods ep. australian duo albrecht la brooy have been steadily carving out a name for themselves over the past few years with their jazz-inflected take on deep house via the likes of apollo/r&s, night tide and of course their own analogue attic imprint which has become a home for their own output as well as fellow australian artists like sleep d, rings around saturn and more. here though we see the label offer up the inaugural ep from melbourne s adam mccoy aka citizen maze. leading on the package is the ten-minute natural playgroun , embracing the labels signature field recording background aesthetic whilst stirring in organic drum grooves, fluttering pads and jazzy sax licks throughout. glade hollow follows with bumpy, off-kilter drums and ethereal chords at its core whilst horn lines and twinkling synth melodies wander across its eight-minute duration. moonlight sanctuary opens the flip-side, edging into darker territories with murky dubbed out synth flourishes, robust drums and tension building strings before title-track serenity in the woods rounds out the package, laying focus on a snaking sub bass groove, metallic percussive shuffles and expansive atmospherics.

elastic dreams, a new label for 2011, bringing out no-hype, no bullshit, deep and warm electronics. music for the mind, as well as the feet, expect to hear techno, ambient, new-beat and other frequencies over coming releases with music coming from nyra, skudge, md2 and a sagittariun. debut release here from a sagittariun, with remixes from md2 aka mike dehnert. a sagittariun looks up to the constellations to bring the first release on elastic dreams the circle stops somewhere is a simple groove with a sweet and melodious synth riff that comes alive throughout the track, some have made comparisions to ames classic rej, whilst not really in that league, circle maintains the dynamic pace with powerful 909 patterns whilst keeping a nice warm analogue vibe. telepathic heights is a brooding, percussive experience with a growling bass riff and enveloping keys with sci-fi elements to its composition. md2 (aka mike dehnert/fachwerk) comes good on the remixes on the flip side. his mello mix is a disjointed and muscular groove that rips apart the original synth riff, and bends and warps it over solid md2 beats to make a real low-slung funky workout. md2s hard mix does what it says on the tin, a relentless bass booming groove and spongy use of the originals samples, this is md2 at his very best!

a-ton is proud to announce panama / suez, the first ep by trio oren ambarchi, konrad sprenger and phillip sollmann (aka efdemin). the three multi-instrumentalists collaborated with the goal of creating subtly shifting musical passageways: sonic routes that run between continents of musical category. the results are two variations of kraut-y, groove-based post-techno that unfurl through mutating polyrhythms and chiming, ethereal guitar play – a rare moment of guitar and techno in deep embrace. with a potential to sustain energy on experimental dancefloors, panama / suez lives from ambarchi, sprenger and sollmann’s diverse input while reflecting a common penchant for both pop and the hypnotic.

refreshingly new oldskool techno tracks by bornek nowec, a project by a rotterdam based dj/producer known for his long tied connections with the local techno scene. this release is the first outing from his large archive of techno tracks produced over the years. 4 cuts full of character that reminds us of the long nights at the nightown basement in the 90 s where he was dj ing with guys such as dj t!m aka frame six and paul du lac.

hitoshi murakami aka first floor debuts on local talk. opening track you dubn t know got a heavy bassline, deep chords and hypnotic textures and sounds like it was tailor-made for those dark and late after hours in the club. a righteous lesson in bumpin deep house... on the flip, delight , shows a different side. a piano driven house track with a great sense of melody that just keeps on keeping on - and that s a good thing.

this summer, my favorite robot records release another of their excellent and immersive full lengths, this time from german production outfit, rework. the trio of daniel varga, michael kuebler and sascha hedgehog aka rework, describe their musical aesthetic as cabaret-independent-house and combine icy minimal structures with catchy euro-girl vocals, anglo-french funk antics and a dash of dance floor melancholy. playhouse, meant and items & things have all released their work, which includes three albums before now. this latest is another musical adventure filled with surprises. this is an effortlessly diverse album that brings a wide range of influences to the table and ties them all together with reworks unique sense of style and cool

superb compilation of modern ambient/minimal electronics featuring exclusive tracks from a wealth of current talent inc. h. takahashi, david edren (aka dsr lines), miaux (ultra eczema), kuupuu (em records) nuslux (keijut) & olli aarni. finnish label collab between lal lal & ikuisuus. tip! . neptunalia, a festival of neptune, celebrated at rome, of which very little is known. the day on which it was held, was probably the 23rd of july. the festival was celebrated with games. respecting the ceremonies of this festival nothing is known, except that the people used to build huts of branches and foliage, in which they probably feasted, drank, and amused themselves.

following our 004 ep we present our first va release with northsouth records bossman and all round don henry hyde (aka harry mccanna) kicking things off. still talking epitomises the forward-thinking sound that is currently coming out of london - a perfect example of our ethos and aesthetic at the label. a tried and tested bomb that will do serious damage on any dance floor.

berlin-based american kevin mchugh aka ambivalent is definitely no stranger to the scene. with r u ok on richie hawtins minus label he landed one of clublands absolute hits of 2007 which can still be found lurking in discerning dj’s record cases today. since 2015 he has been providing high quality tracks on his delft label, and he celebrated his cocoon debut two years ago with the daylights ep. together with dutch clone-producer martijn hoogendijk aka alden tyrell, ambivalent has cooked up another serving of straightforward techno complete with rigorous hi-hats, which will no doubt summon up the uncompromising energy of his berghain sets wherever its played. with its powerful incantation of sequential rave signals, wallfall recalls the best days of jeff mills in the form of ultra-modern detroit-oriented premium techno, while detente lays disconcerting industrial distortion over expansive dubtechno for maximum acceleration. the perfect fix for hot nights of celebration.
